Adrien Gaidon is currently the Machine Intelligence Lead and a Senior Research Scientist at the Toyota Research Institute (TRI) in Los Altos, CA, USA. He received his PhD from MSR-Inria Paris in 2012, was a post doctoral research scientist at Inria Grenoble in Cordelia Schmid’s group, and a Research Scientist in the Computer Vision Group at Xerox Research Center Europe (XRCE). Before that, Adrien won the Pascal VOC 2008 challenge on object classification and detection. His work on Computer Vision and Machine Learning has led to 27 publications (patents and academic papers, mostly in top international conferences and journals like CVPR, PAMI.
Adrien’s main research focus is on video understanding, especially action recognition, object detection and tracking, deep learning, and domain adaptation. His recent work on using virtual worlds and game engines to generate synthetic training and test data for deep learning was published at CVPR 2016 and 2017, and covered internationally in Wired, MIT Tech Review, and Forbes. Adrien recently co-organized the first international workshop on Virtual/Augmented Reality for Visual Artificial Intelligence (VARVAI) at ECCV 2016 & ACM-MM 2016, is a Guest Editor for the International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV) Special Issue on “Synthetic Visual Data”, and a reviewer for the major machine learning and computer vision conferences and journals.
