Adrian joined the Royal Navy when a medical student and has had a career involving submarines, aircraft carriers, and field hospitals in
Iraq and Afghanistan. He currently works as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist, is Visiting Professor at Leeds Beckett University's Carnegie Research Institute, and a Reader within the Academic Department of Military Anaesthesia and Critical Care. His research interests include aspects of high altitude physiology and illness, investigating acclimatization strategies, and endocrine biomarkers for disease. A lifelong mountaineer, he has climbed in Nepal, North and South America, Pakistan, and Kyrgyzstan leading both research trips and as a military mountaineering instructor. He is an enthusiastic participant and leader of many challenging military expeditions and strongly believes in the benefits and transferable skills from outdoor activity.
