Professor Bauman is Sesquicentenary Professor of Public Health and Director of the Prevention Research Collaboration at the University of Sydney. He has academic expertise in all aspects of the primary prevention of chronic disease, with an emphasis on physical activity epidemiology, population-level interventions and policy research.

He is the theme leader for Physical Activity and Exercise for the Charles Perkins Centre and is interested in chronic disease prevention, with a longstanding focus on physical activity and public health. He co-directs the WHO Collaborating Centre on Physical Activity, Nutrition and Obesity, and has assisted in the development of national physical activity policy, plans and surveillance systems in many countries.
