Dr. Adeel Ahmed Shamim, MD, FACS, attended Aga Khan University, in Karachi Pakistan, the premier medical college in the country. He graduated with numerous honors and distinctions, which placed him in the Top 10th percentile in his class. After medical school, Dr.Shamim went to the University of Florida as a surgical intern and subsequently Howard University, in Washington DC, for his General Surgery training.
Academically, Dr.Shamim consistently placed in the 95Th percentile or above in his in-training exams and became certified by the American Board of Surgery immediately upon residency graduation. Due to his love for Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery, Dr. Shamim proceeded to do a one-year fellowship training at Staten Island University Hospital.
Dr.Shamim then joined Mercy Clinic, in Fort Smith Arkansas, and helped to stabilize and grow the Bariatric Surgery Program at Mercy Clinic. With exceptional Bariatric surgery patient outcomes along with increasing patient volumes, the hospital was able to become accredited by the MBSQIP within 2 years of Dr. Shamim's joining. Now, Dr.Shamim has established himself as a well sought after Bariatric Surgeon in the Western Arkansas/Eastern Oklahoma region. His peers & colleagues have also nominated him 2 years in a row (2022 & 2023) as a Castle Conolly Top Doctor, which features the nation’s top 7% of doctors.
Dr.Shamim is well trained in endoscopy, open and advanced minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy and robotics) techniques. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
His research interests are Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Abdominal Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Robotic Surgery, Hernia Repair, Gastric Bypass, Trauma Surgery, and Minimally Invasive Procedures.
