Adam Bagg, MD is a Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia who divides his time between attending diagnostic hematopathology, teaching, and research. At Penn, here has served, at various times, as Director of Hematology, Medical Director of Clinical Cancer Cytogenetics, Director of the Hematopathology Laboratory, and Interim Director of Hematopathology. He graduated from Medical School at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1981, where he also completed his Pathology training in Laboratory Hematology/Hematopathology in 1988. Prior to being recruited to Penn in 1999, he spent a decade at Georgetown University in Washington DC. For the past 13 years in a row (2010-2022), he was voted by his peers as one of Philadelphia’s “Top Doctors”, the only hematopathologist in the Philadelphia region (which includes five academic medical centers, as well as other large community practices) to be so recognized. He has received numerous research grants, including some from the NIH, and teaching awards.

Dr. Bagg has lectured extensively nationally (including at USCAP, ASCP, AMP, CAP, ACLPS, AACC, and ASH, as well as giving grand rounds at a number of prestigious universities and medical centers including Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cornell, Columbia, Mayo Clinic) and internationally (at EAHP, ISLH, EBMWG, IAP, in over 20 countries). He has over 220 full-length publications most in the realm of the molecular pathology of hematologic malignancies. As a member of the Clinical Advisory Committee, he coauthored the recently published (2022) International Consensus Classification (ICC) of Myeloid Neoplasms and Acute Leukemias, as well as the two articles on Genomic Profiling for Clinical Decision Making, one in Myeloid Neoplasms and Acute Leukemias and the other in Lymphoid Neoplasms. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Molecular Diagnostics and on the Editorial Board of Advances in Anatomic Pathology.
