Abdulaziz Alkhulaifi

Dr. Abdulaziz Alkhulaifi has been the Chairman of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department at the Heart Hospital, HMC since June 2012. He originally joined HMC in 2011 as a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon but took a 2-year sabbatical 2010-2012 to set up a Cardiothoracic Department at Al Ahli Hospital, Doha, Qatar. In becoming the Chairman of the department he has had a remit to steer the department towards an academic health system model.

He graduated in Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and undertook training in Surgery in the UK and gained his FRCS. He then specialized in Cardiothoracic Surgery and gained the specialist FRCS(CTh), and gained the CCST (Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training). He then became a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at St George’s Hospital in London, UK. He returned to Qatar in 2001 to become a consultant in the CCS Department of Hamad Hospital.
