Abdelrahman Nimeri MD, MBBCh, FACS, FASMBS

Dr. Abdelrahman Nimeri is currently the Chief of the Division of General, Thoracic, & Vascular Surgery, Director of Bariatric & Metabolic Institute (BMI) Abu Dhabi, & Surgeon Champion of ACS NSQIP & MBSAQIP at SKMC. In addition, he is the lead surgeon champion for the ACS NSQIP Middle East Collaborative established in 2016. He is an adjunct staff at the Cleveland Clinic’s Endocrine and Metabolic Institute in Cleveland Ohio and an Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery at the UAE University.

Dr. Nimeri is the Associate Program Director of the first ACGME-I accredited Surgery Residency Program in the Middle East at SKMC in Abu Dhabi and the Fellowship program director for the MIS and Bariatric surgery fellowship program at SKMC. Dr. Nimeri is Chairman of the International Federation for Surgery of Obesity’s (IFSO) Communication committee, and President of PASMBS (the Pan Arab Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery 2017. In addition, he is a member of the IFSO Ethics Committee, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) Global Affairs committee & the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) communication committee.

Dr. Nimeri joined SKMC as a consultant surgeon in May 2009. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco. He finished his general surgery residency training at Huron Hospital, Cleveland Clinic Health System in Cleveland Ohio in 2004. Dr. Nimeri did his fellowship in Minimally Invasive & Bariatric Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St Louis Missouri in 2005. He practiced at the University of California San Francisco-Fresno starting from 2005-2009. At UCSF Fresno he was on faculty in the general surgery Residency program and was one of three faculty of the Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship program at UCSF Fresno. Dr. Nimeri has interests in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatric Surgery, Surgical Education, and Surgical Quality.
