Dr. Abdallah (Abe) Elias joined Shodair in 2013 and became medical director of the Department of Medical Genetic in June 2014. He is board-certified in clinical genetics and family medicine and trained in pediatrics at the University of Freiburg, Germany. He completed a residency and fellowship in Clinical Genetics at the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he was the recipient of the Margaret Ellen Nielsen Fellowship Award in Genetic Medicine. Born in Germany, he received his medical degree from the University of Freiburg in Germany, followed by a Pediatrics residency at the Children’s Hospital of the University of Freiburg in Germany and a Family Medicine at the University of South Dakota in Sioux Falls, SD.

He came to Montana initially as a scientist working on the molecular genetics of Lyme disease at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Hamilton, MT. He is affiliate professor at the University of Montana, Department of Biomedical & Pharmaceutical Sciences. He has worked as a developer and reviewer for CME activities with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the National Coalition for Health Professional Education in Genetics (NCHPEG) and the Jackson Laboratories. His interests include the genetics of connective tissue disorders, infection and immunity, and genomic medicine.
