Aasma Shaukat, M.D., MPH, is a professor of population health, the director of GI Outcomes Research, Gastroenterology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, and a physician at the NY Harbor VA. She is a gastroenterologist, epidemiologist, and clinical researcher with a medical degree from Aga Khan University and a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining NYU in 2021, she served as the section chief, GI Section at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System.

Shaukat's area of clinical research is colon cancer screening and long-term outcomes. She has published her results on the long-term follow-up of the participants of the Minnesota fecal occult blood trials in the New England Journal of Medicine and is now evaluating the age- and gender-specific benefits of colon cancer screening. She also serves as the chair of the Veterans Health Care Administration’s GI field advisory board. In this position,n she met with research and operations leadership to understand priorities for the Veterans Health Administration.
