Aart Jan Van Der Lely MD, PhD

Aart Jan (AJ) van der Lely is Head of the Division of Endocrinology and Professor of Endocrinology at the Erasmus University MC in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He also is Vice Head of the Dept. of Internal Medicine of the Erasmus University MC. Dr. Van der Lely serves- or served on the editorial boards of Clinical Endocrinology (Oxford), the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, Clinical Interventions in Aging, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Nature Reviews in Endocrinology. He is the past president of the Dutch Endocrine Society and secretary of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS), Section of Endocrinology. He served until mid–2013 as a member of the Executive Board of the European Society of Endocrinology, in which he was treasurer and until mid-2014 as a member of the Executive Board of the International Society of Endocrinology. He is also a scientific advisor and co-founder of Alize Pharma SAS in Lyon. This small biotech company is currently developing a des–acyl ghrelin analog in phases 1–2 in two indications (diabetes and Prader–Willi Syndrome). His main research areas are pituitary diseases and the study of the role of gut hormones in health and disease.
