Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Maryland School of Physical Therapy in 1980 and completed the Institute of Physical Therapy’s Certification program in 1986. He graduated from Emory University with a Masters of Medical Science degree in 1991. He graduated from the University of North Florida with a Doctor of Educational Leadership degree in 2004. He has been a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy since 1993.

Currently, he is an Associate Professor at Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, Virginia and in private practice. Clinically, his special interests include the development of effective examination and treatment methods integrating soft tissue mobility, joint manipulation and motor learning. His academic interests include psychomotor learning, the facilitation of critical thinking skills and the effective use of technology. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT).
