Anna Salvati, Associate Professor at the Division of Pharmacokinetics, Toxicology, and Targeting ( Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science) has received an ERC Starting Grant of EUR 1.5 million. She will study how nanoparticles, that can carry drugs, are taken up and processed by cells.
After graduating in Biological Sciences at the University of Florence, Italy, she has undertaken a PhD in Chemical Sciences (Physical Chemistry) at the same University, spending 18 months as a visiting student in the Chemistry Department of Lund University, Sweden. Her PhD project was focused on the preparation and physicochemical characterization of carriers for drug delivery, such as liposomes for gene and drug delivery, and composite responsive gels for controlled drug release. She received her Ph.D. in early 2007 and with this background in physical chemistry, She then joined the Centre for BioNano Interactions, University College Dublin, Ireland, as a postdoctoral researcher and senior researcher.
