Dr. Simon Thebault, MD, PhD, is a neurologist and clinician-scientist specializing in multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuroimmunology. He serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University and an attending physician at the Montreal Neurological Institute and McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada. His clinical and research work focuses on understanding the immune mechanisms underlying neurological diseases and improving outcomes for patients with MS.
Dr. Thebault's research focuses on identifying and translating soluble protein and immune cell biomarkers into clinically useful tools for diagnosing MS, predicting disease progression, and monitoring treatment response. His laboratory integrates advanced detection technologies and multi-omic approaches to analyze blood and cerebrospinal fluid samples from well-characterized clinical cohorts.
His key research interests include investigating biomarkers such as neurofilament light chain and glial fibrillary acidic protein, characterizing cerebrospinal fluid protein profiles and immune cell signatures associated with inflammation within the central nervous system, and examining the role of Epstein–Barr virus in MS disease activity. His work explores the potential of these biomarkers to improve understanding of disease mechanisms and support the development of targeted therapeutic strategies.
Through his combined clinical and research expertise, Dr. Thebault aims to bridge laboratory discoveries with clinical practice and advance precision medicine for people living with multiple sclerosis. His research seeks to improve diagnostic accuracy, enable more personalized treatment decisions, and contribute to a better understanding of neuroinflammation and disease progression.
