Workshops Anonymous aims to make meetings/workshops/conferences as easy as possible for the convenor(s) and the organising committee. In the case of the Priorities in Perinatal Care conference, the convenor with the help of the committee – identifies and makes the initial contact with the invited guest speakers, once the speakers have confirmed that they will present then the organisers contact them to arrange their flights/transport, accommodation and any other arrangements they require. In the case of overseas invited guest speakers, we also put them in touch with our travel agent to organise any other tours, etc they might like to undertake while in South Africa.
The second thing that the convenor and committee do is finalise the scientific programme – all abstracts are collected by the organisers and sorted into broad categories: the committee then spends a morning dividing the abstracts into the relevant sessions, deciding on bursary recipients and finalising the scientific programme. Once this has been done, the scientific programme is typed, the abstract book compiled and confirmation of presentation letters are sent to all presenters detailing the date and time of their session, length of their talk and any other relevant requirements or information they might need.
