The VAFP represents over 3,000 family medicine physicians, family medicine residents and medical students and is the largest medical specialty society in the Commonwealth. As part of its mission, the VAFP strives on behalf of its members to ensure quality, accessible health care, dedicated to the dignity and well-being of all people in Virginia.

The VAFP monitors both the regulatory and legislative arenas at the state and federal levels as well as sponsors educational programs and other activities of benefit to the members. The Academy focuses its’ efforts on your behalf to continually enhance and improve Membership benefits, promote the specialty of family medicine through Advocacy and Representation, execute evidence based, high quality Continuing Medical Education programs that are designed by family physicians for family physicians and inform members through social media, electronic and print Communication channels.

Mission:
The mission of the VAFP is to empower its members to be physicians who provide high quality, accessible health care, dedicate themselves to the well-being of the citizens of Virginia, and are guided by the principle that the family physician remain the specialist of choice to guide lifelong health care.

The vision of the VAFP is for Virginia to be the best place for Their citizens to receive their healthcare and for family physicians to practice medicine.
