The Society of Physicians in Wales (SPW) was founded more than 50 years ago by consultants who had an interest in general medicine and who were working in Wales. The first meeting of The Society of Physicians in Wales was held in the Rockfeller Laboratories of the Welsh National School of Medicine at the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, on Saturday 7th July 1951. The aims of the founders of SPW were "The advancement of knowledge of general medicine and related subjects and the promotion of friendship among the members".
