Spanish Society of Surgical Oncology / Sociedad Española de Oncología Quirúrgica (SEOQ)

Madrid, Madrid, Spain

Description:
The Spanish Society of Surgical Oncology (SEOQ) is a scientific society in which all specialists involved in the surgical treatment of cancer of any location participate. All surgical specialties are included: General and Digestive Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology, Otorhinolaryngology, Thoracic Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Dermatology, Neurosurgery, Maxillofacial Surgery.

They must go back to May 1970 when the concern for oncological issues of many Spanish doctors led to the creation of the Spanish Society of Oncology (SEO) in which both researchers in the fight against cancer and doctors dedicated to the different existing treatments.

With the development of radiotherapy and the expansion of cobalt therapy units, as well as improvements in chemotherapy and especially the creation of the specialty of Medical Oncology in 1983, increasingly differentiated groups were created and they wanted to create their own Companies, independent of the SEO

This was the reason for thinking about the advisability of creating the Spanish Society of Oncological Surgery (SECO), initially promoted as a subsidiary of the SEO and thinking that it could serve as an attraction for the other two therapeutic branches, chemotherapy ( SEOM) and radiotherapy (AERO) could be integrated in some way into the activities of the SEO.
