Spanish Society of Ophthalmology / Sociedad Espanola de Oftalmologia (SEO)

The creation of societies was very common in Spain, at the beginning of the 20th century, so after the appearance of the magazine: "Archivos de Oftalmología Hispanoamericanos", the idea arose of grouping Hispanic ophthalmologists creating the Hispanoamerican Ophthalmological Society ( SOHA). It was in 1903, during the XIV International Congress of Medicine, in Madrid, that it was officially inaugurated. Mission:
The raison d'être of SEO is the continuous quality training of Ophthalmologists, which is carried out above all through its annual Congresses, and the Visual Health Care of all Spaniards, as a result of the improvement and updating in the medical practices and directly through the media and recommendations.

In addition, the wide specialization and ophthalmological activity in Their country have given rise to the creation of Societies specialized in different ocular pathologies. SEO encompasses and adds all the knowledge acquired and apprehended from the different Societies, cooperating as a General Society with the professionals attached to them, incorporating improvements in their practices, and contributing to their better development.

VALUES:
integrity and transparency are inherent values ​​of Their Society and should be so of any other scientific Society. Without these, the changes and transformations that science originates cannot be fully produced.

Both professional and scientific excellence is another of the bases on which our activity is based. They are a benchmark at a European and world level, with the recognition of European Societies and other continents. For this reason, They add participation and innovation, whenever possible, in all our activities, both those carried out nationally and internationally.

As They explained in previous paragraphs, the establishment of common relationships, activities, and strategies with other specialties, and their Societies, is vital to give meaning and value to the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology, which is still a Society that encompasses all these specialties and its partners are the partners that make up and direct the others.
