Spanish Ovarian Cancer Research Group / Grupo Espanol de Investigacion en Cancer de Ovario (GEICO)

Madrid, Madrid, Spain

The Spanish Ovarian Cancer Research Group (GEICO) was established in 1999 as a non-profit Scientific Association with two main purposes:
• Develop, stimulate and coordinate clinical studies of gynecological cancer research in general, with special attention to ovarian cancer.
• Organize scientific meetings, congresses and symposiums with a teaching objective and promotion of the aforementioned studies.

Recently, GEICO has also been integrated into the ENGOT ( European Network of Gynaecological Oncological Trial Groups ) platform and the American group Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), with the aim of participating in international trials designed both in Europe and the United States.

From the beginning of its constitution one of the aims of the GEICO group has been to enable the majority of centers in the country to participate in international protocols of the highest scientific quality. To achieve this goal, in 2003 the group was integrated into the Gynecologic Cancer Intergroup (GCIG), where it participates in collaboration with other global cooperative groups involved in gynecological cancer research. As a result of this collaboration with the GCIG, the GEICO group has participated and participates actively in several randomized trials in gynecological cancer, which are detailed in the CLINICAL RESEARCH tab of this page. Likewise, GEICO is actively participating in the design and promotion of new clinical studies under the auspices of the GCIG.
