South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (SCAAP)

In 1921, during the Annual Meeting of the South Carolina Medical Association (SCMA) in Columbia, a group of seven physicians interested in pediatrics met to organize a state pediatric society. In 1922, all South Carolina physicians interested in pediatrics were invited to join the society called The South Carolina Pediatric Society.

Later, the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (SCAAP) was formally organized in Columbia, South Carolina on September 9, 1952, during the annual State Pediatric Society meeting. All members who were active in the South Carolina Pediatric Society were included in the membership. Although the SCAAP was not formally organized until 1952 records show the American Academy of Pediatrics began appointing state chairmen as early as 1932. Since its inception in 1952 the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has grown to over 700 members. The Chapters activities and committee functions have had significant impact on pediatric care and policies in the state.

Mission:
The mission of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is to establish a safe environment for all children, promote the equitable access and adherence to evidence-based immunization recommendations, promote health care access, promote family support and a nurturing environment, advocate for the needs of all children, and support Their members in this work.

The South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is dedicated to the principle of a meaningful and healthy life for every child.
