South Carolina Alliance of Health Plans (SCAHP)

The South Carolina Alliance of Health Plans is the unified voice of managed care in South Carolina. SCAHP is a broad coalition of health plans, leading pharmaceutical companies, health plan agents and brokers, and health plan service providers. It provides excellent policy analysis, effective advocacy and comprehensive trade association services for its members.

SCAHP governing members include all five of the Medicaid Managed Care Organizations and several of the leading commercial health plans. SCAHP health plan members serve over 90% of all South Carolinians.

For more than 25 years the Alliance has been the state’s policy leader for market-driven innovation and solutions to their health care challenges.

SCAHP executives are proven leaders in health care and free market policies in South Carolina. They work closely with the General Assembly, the Governor’s Office; the Department of Insurance and the Department of Health and Human Services to ensure their members’ voices are heard, their interests protected and their priorities advanced on key issues. In each of the past several years, the Alliance defeated every legislative attempt to impose coverage mandates or excessive regulatory burdens. SCAHP find it more productive to address many issues through collaborative voluntary agreements with health care providers and stakeholders. This helps keep health plan premiums affordable for consumers and avoids unnecessary government entanglement.
