Founded in 1979, the Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM), is a not-for-profit, professional research organization of approximately 1,000 members worldwide. They promote scientific and methodological rigor in health care decision research and its application to health policy and clinical care. They promote an analytic, transdisciplinary, integrated approach to health care decision making in an inspiring, energizing, respectful, collegial, and friendly learning environment.

Mission :
The Society for Medical Decision Making aims to advance medical decision-making research and practice to improve health outcomes. Members work together with patients, clinicians, researchers, policy-makers and the public to improve the quality, patient-centeredness, and value of health decisions.

Vision :
Their vision is that systematic proactive approaches should be used for decision making in health care. They are promoting an integrated approach to health care decision making based on multiple perspectives and expertise from multiple disciplines. Optimal communication among those involved in healthcare decisions will facilitate informed and shared decision-making by policy-makers, physicians, patients, and the public.
