The Digestive Cancer Research Group (GICD) was created in 1988 with the initial designation of the Digestive Cancer Cooperative Group and integrated into the Portuguese Oncology Research Association (APIO).
In addition to the research activities at the national level, the GICD is part of the PETACC (Pan-European Trials in Ajduvant Colon Cancer) which is an Association of National Cooperative Groups recognized by the EORTC.
Currently, the GICD has as one of its main objectives to alert the general population to the dangers of this disease, one of the main causes of mortality in Portugal, as well as to provide patients with information about the pathology and its treatment.
