The Division of Medicine was created in 1924 at St. Paul’s Hospital and over the years the Department has become the major driving force for clinical care, education and research related to the nature, cause and prevention of adult diseases at three sites: St. Paul's Hospital, Mount St. Joseph Hospital, and Holy Family Hospital. They are the largest clinical Department at Providence Health Care and their members are distributed in eighteen academic divisions: Interdepartmental Division of Addiction Medicine, AIDS, Allergy and Immunology, Cardiology, Critical Care, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, General Internal Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Hematology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Neurology, Interdepartmental Division of Palliative Care, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Respiratory Medicine, and Rheumatology.
