Since 2016 Dr Ferrari has been Director of Research at the CNRS in Lyon where he heads the laboratory of Social Neuroscience and Comparative Development. Dr. Ferrari received his degree in biology from the University of Parma, Italy, in 1992. During his doctorate he carried out his research between the universities of Parma, London and Leeds in Great Britain. He quickly followed up with a post-doc at Tufts University in Boston in the United States. On his return to Italy he joined the team led by Giacomo Rizzolatti in Parma to study the role of mirror neurons in emotional communication and intentions. Between 2007 and 2008, he worked as an associate scientist/researcher at the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development, NIH, Bethesda, Maryland, by conducting research on brain development in relation to cognitive functions and social behavior in macaques. He has also held the position of Associate Professor at the University of Maryland, USA, and Visiting Professor at the University of Reading in Great Britain. Dr. Ferrari was Associate Professor in Neuroscience at the University of Parma in Italy until 2016. Among his achievements is the Wilson Distinguished Lecturer Award from the University of Georgia in the United States. He was also the president of the Italian association of primatology, API.
