The PennHealthX innovation program was founded in 2013 and has grown into a fully funded program that provides medical students with opportunities to explore, experience, and contribute to innovation in health care.
Mission:
PennHealthX is a student-led organization within the Perelman School of Medicine with the intention of supporting students with interests in healthcare management, entrepreneurship, technology, and business.
Goals:
• Build a national network of engaged PennHealthX students, faculty, alumni, and industry leaders dedicated to driving healthcare innovation at intersections with management, entrepreneurship, and technology.
• Develop a longitudinal workshop series to educate students on fundamental topics in business such as finance, accounting, and management within the goal of preparing future physician leaders.
• Promote the Penn HealthX brand on a national level through continued collaboration with similar-minded organizations, such as Sling Health.
• Create the first-ever podcast series covering topics at the intersection of healthcare management, entrepreneurship, and technology to promote on-campus learning and discussion.
Overview:
• Since it’s founding in 2013, Penn HealthX has:
• Hosted over 100 lecture-series events for students
• Funded 23 non-traditional summer internships
• Provided non-dilutive seed funding for 13 student-run startups
• Hosted 4 annual conferences with over 640 tickets sold
• Awarded 39 H-MET certificates to graduating PSOM students
• Produced 40 podcast episodes with over 20,000 listens
• Written 16 blog posts on topics at the intersection of medicine and business
