The North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS), formerly the American Neuromodulation Society (ANS), was formed in 1994 through the efforts of physicians dedicated to patient care through the field of neuromodulation. The society is a chapter of the International Neuromodulation Society (INS). NANS is a non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of the field of neuromodulation within the United States. NANS is devoted to the pursuit of excellence in the application of all neuromodulation therapies. Neuromodulation is often defined as the application of targeted electrical, chemical and biological technologies to the nervous system in order to improve function and quality of life.

Mission:
The North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) is dedicated to being the premier organization representing neuromodulation. NANS promotes multidisciplinary collaboration among clinicians, scientists, engineers and others to advance neuromodulation through education, research, innovation and advocacy. Through these efforts NANS seeks to promote and advance the highest quality patient care.

NANS Vision Statement:
• NANS will work to expand the scope of neuromodulation as new technologies and treatments become available.
• NANS will work to expand the breadth of its membership to involve all disciplines that develop and deliver neuromodulation therapies
• NANS will strive to ensure that its’ clinician members are recognized as the pre-eminent providers of quality care to patients who may benefit from neuromodulation therapies.
• NANS will be its members’ principal resource for continuing education, professional interaction and clinical strategies to promote optimal utilization of neuromodulation therapies.
• NANS will develop, disseminate, and maintain guidelines that promote patient safety, cost effectiveness, and appropriate patient selection for neuromodulation therapies.
• NANS will promote awareness and advocate for neuromodulation therapies through its communications and interactions with the public, media, government, medical communities and third party payers.
• NANS will work with other societies, government, third party payers, and patients to maintain access to neuromodulation therapies.
• NANS will promote and support clinical and basic science research to improve the understanding of the mechanisms, expand the scope of, and enhance the evidence base support for the use of neuromodulation therapies.
