The Melanoma Foundation is born thanks to the support of two public institutions: the National Cancer Institute “G. Pascale ”of Naples and the Second University of Naples. It is directed and coordinated by prof. Paolo Ascierto, Director of the Melanoma Unit, Oncological Immunotherapy and Innovative Therapies of the "Pascale" in Naples. Honorary President is prof. Nicola Mozzillo.

Melanoma is a particularly aggressive and constantly growing tumor and the Foundation wants to represent a direct reference point for citizens, supporting research projects and awareness and information campaigns. The Foundation pursues exclusively purposes of social solidarity and intends:

• Operate in the field of oncology RESEARCH and the acquisition of new knowledge on the biological and clinical characteristics of tumors and melanoma in particular, stimulating and supporting the development of new drugs, new therapeutic modalities and biomedical technologies that have repercussions on prevention, diagnosis and therapy ;
• Promote the rapid transfer of the results obtained from laboratory and clinical research to the patient's bedside (the so-called "translational research") and, with a reverse path, from research assistance;
• Promote the improvement of PATIENT ASSISTANCE affected by melanoma, using the most modern diagnostic and therapeutic means in order to raise, in the South of Italy, the qualitative level of prevention and diagnosis of this neoplasm and to offer cutting-edge therapies, reducing the health migration of cancer patients;
• Promote the TRAINING of personnel for both assistance and the prevention of melanoma, and for cancer research;
• Promote the dissemination of knowledge among the population through the establishment and strengthening of health EDUCATION programs.
