The Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB) was formally incorporated in 1988. The MDCB is the recognized certifying agency for Medical Dosimetry in the United States and administers the Medical Dosimetry Certification Exam. By 1991, the exam was administered annually in 15 test sites in major cities in the United States and Canada. Since 2012, the exam is administered twice annually.
Medical Dosimetrists from countries outside the United States and Canada have recognized the importance of certification and have elected to become certified by the MDCB. Beginning in 2008, the exam was offered in Hong Kong and South Korea whenever there was a minimum of ten candidates for any site. In 2011, a computer-based exam became available in 133 sites outside North America and has been available to candidates from the Far East, the Middle East, Australia and Europe.
