Structure:
The Maryland Orthopaedic Association (MOA) is the professional organization for the orthopaedic community in Maryland. Their mission is to encourage, promote, and advance the science and medical art and practice of orthopaedic surgery. They are a membership association organized as a Maryland corporation and operated as a 501(c)(6) under the Internal Revenue Code (EIN 52-1979179). They are the state society affiliate of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
History:
They were organized as The Maryland Orthopaedic Society on May 14, 1966, by a group of orthopaedic surgeons whose vision was to establish a vehicle for continued education and fellowship among Maryland orthopaedists and continuous improvement of the profession. Their founders were George N. Austin, M.D., Liebe S. Diamond, M.D., George O. Eaton, M.D., George H. Greenstein, M.D., William P. Horton, M.D., A. Gibson Packard, M.D., and Gerhard Schmeisser, Jr., M.D.
