Lithuanian Society of Gastroenterologists / Lietuvos gastroenterologu draugija (LGD)

In 1969, the Gastroenterology Section was established under the Lithuanian Society of Therapists, headed by Prof. Mykolas Marcinkevicius. Four years later, in 1973, an independent Lithuanian Society of Gastroenterologists was established. For 20 years, it was headed by Prof. Marijonas Krikštopaitis. After Lithuania regained its independence, new statutes of the Lithuanian Society of Gastroenterologists were registered in 1996. It was headed by prominent Lithuanian gastroenterologists – Prof. Algimantas Irnius, Prof. Jonas Valantinas, Prof. Academician Limas Kupcinskas, Prof. Gediminas Kiudelis. Since 2022, the LGD has been chaired by Assoc. Prof. Goda Sadauskaite.

Mission:
The Lithuanian Society of Gastroenterologists is a public, non-profit scientific organization whose mission is to improve the diagnostics, treatment and prevention of diseases of the digestive tract, pancreas and liver, and to unite Lithuanian specialists working in this field. The Society promotes the application of good medical practice, scientific activities, and supports the professional development of specialists.
