The "Krakow Medical Society" was founded in 1866 on the initiative of Dr. Aleksander Kremer. Until then, Kraków physicians had met and held their scientific sessions in the medical section of the "Scientific Society," founded in 1815. The rapid development of medical science and the specific challenges facing the medical profession prompted physicians to separate themselves into their own Society. However, physicians' meetings continued to be held in the Scientific Society building on Sławkowska Street. The "Medical Society House" was designed by J. Sowiński, and the construction was undertaken by W. Kaczmarski's firm.
