IASL is one of the oldest international organizations in the fight against liver and biliary tract diseases. It was established in 1958, aiming for the training of experts in hepatology and to encourage basic and clinical research. This included facilitating internationally the prevention, recognition, and treatment of diseases of the liver and biliary tract.
Mission:
The International Association for the Study of the Liver (IASL) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to:
• establish, maintain, sponsor, promote activities, programs, and projects which assist in the education of clinicians and scientists in an international context;
• foster and promote, within an international context, basic and clinical research into liver and biliary diseases;
• collaborate with its continental constituent association members, as well as with other healthcare organizations concerned with liver disease; and
• facilitate progress toward the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the liver and biliary tract.
