The Indiana Nurses Foundation was established as the charitable corporation of the Indiana State Nurses Association. The Foundation was organized and incorporated in 1976 and is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.
Original purposes of the Foundation were educational, scientific and charitable. In 1992, the Nurses Foundation began a study of its goals and role in supporting nursing in Indiana. Through a series of consultants and focus groups, the role of the Indiana Nurses Foundation was changed to philanthropic. The Foundation now serves to accept and dispense monies that benefit the profession of nursing in Indiana. Since then the Foundation has provided funds for nurses to gain or continue their nursing education. The Foundation also sponsors workshops and nationally known speakers in Indiana.
