Heidelberg Institute for Radiation Oncology (HIRO) / Heidelberger Institut für Radioonkologie

The Heidelberg Institute for Radiation Oncology - HIRO is a joint venture of the German Cancer Research Center, the University Hospital Heidelberg and the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg as well as the Heidelberg Ion Beam Therapy Center. It represents the Heidelberg location in the National Center for Radiation Research in Oncology .

The goal of HIRO is to improve the treatment of cancer by a physically and biologically optimized radiotherapy. To this end, the HIRO covers the entire chain from basic research through the conduct of clinical studies to clinical care and includes all aspects of radiooncology, radiation physics, medical informatics and radiation biology.
