Hebron Valley Research Institute / Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR)

Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain

They are a public sector institution that promotes and develops research, innovation, and bio-sanitary teaching at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital, Barcelona Hospital, and the largest of the Catalan Institute of Health (ICS). Among Their patrons, They have the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economy and Knowledge (we are a CERCA center, the entity dependent on this Department), the HUVH, the Blood and Tissue Bank, the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), of which They are an accredited research institute, and the Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO), which together with the VHIR is part of the Accredited Institute of the Vall d'Hebron Campus by the Instituto de Health Carlos III (ISCIII).

Since its inception in 1994, the VHIR has been working to identify and implement new solutions to society's health problems and help spread them around the world. In these more than 25 years They have achieved leadership in hospital biomedical research in Their country, and They aspire to be recognized in 2020 as an excellent, competitive, and leading European Institute in clinical and translational research linked to a university hospital.

In Their institute, They work more than 1,800 people, of which more than 1,100 do research and the rest (+750), help that this can be done or to transfer it to the society once done, either in the form of projects, technology transfer, and innovation, communication or patronage, among others.

The best thing Their institute and its research staff do is do research to solve people’s health problems. Their work is not only basic or translational, They are leaders in clinical research. They have hospital beds less than 50 meters from the labs and Their patients will benefit from Their research. That’s what They believe in, that’s why They strive. And this is how the industry leaders understand it, who are committed to Their hospital, making it a world reference for making their first clinical trials.
