Health Lawyers Association / Juristas de la Salud

It was established in 1992 as a non-profit, voluntary association, to bring together as many professionals who dedicate and show a specific interest in issues related to health and health law.

Individuals whose professional activity is carried out within the field of health and health law or who show a specific interest in this branch of law can form part as associates.

The Health Lawyers Association is a member of the “Spanish Society of Public Health and Health Administration” SESPAS.

History:
This Association is, in the first instance, the fruit of the initiative of various lawyers linked to the autonomous governments and the health services of the Autonomous Communities, who conceived the need to deepen the analysis and reflection of an area of ​​Law or -the Law of Health- which, as is known, runs transversally through all the specialties of Law and is projected on very varied de facto situations, on many occasions of enormous individual and collective importance, and which, on the contrary, did not have in Spain no academic recognition and institutional, nor a sufficient doctrinal development l.

It was the 1990s and, despite the fact that some Autonomous Communities (Catalonia, the Basque Country, Navarra, Valencia and Andalucia) had already received full transfers in health matters, the bulk of the health care services continued to reside in the INSAL UD and, therefore, it was necessary to build a body of doctrine in what refers to Health Law that would welcome and enable the exercise of competences and the management of health services by the Autonomous Communities.
