Global Health through Education, Training and Service (GHETS)

Attleboro, Massachusetts, United States of America

Global Health through Education, Training and Service (GHETS) is a non-governmental organization dedicated to improving health in underserved communities around the world.

Mission:
We believe that well-trained and supported doctors, nurses, and allied health workers are the key to sustainable change. By providing seed grants and project support to a network of health professionals and advocates, we promote an increased utilization of local knowledge and expertise.

We are community oriented. By providing funding and support to local partners, GHETS projects are developed and completed on-the-ground by individuals who are socially accountable to the communities that they serve.

We take a comprehensive approach to health. Health care is not simply treating disease, but also improving the quality of life of individuals and communities. Many global health interventions focus on singular diseases, such as HIV, malaria, or TB, often taking attention away from basic health services and primary care. GHETS focuses on increasing the number of locally-trained health personnel who are able to provide comprehensive care for any concern a community might face, from HIV to malnutrition to gender-based violence.

We focus on local, long-term capacity building. Many health and development projects fail after imported physicians and health care workers leave. GHETS uses a long-term strategy to build local health workforces and comprehensive primary care services.
