The German Society for Human Genetics (GfH) was founded in 1987. The GfH is a nationwide scientific association of medical specialists and scientists who work in the field of human genetics.
One of the central tasks of the GfH is the promotion of human genetics in all areas of research, teaching and practice. This is done in particular through scientific conferences for the publication of new results, through the promotion of further education and training measures for colleagues in further education and colleagues from related fields, as well as through working groups that deal with research and the practical significance of certain sub-areas. The tasks also include bringing together the various research and work areas of human genetics.
Their tasks and goals :
• Elaboration of guidelines and statements for the creation of uniform quality standards of human genetic services • public relation
• Representation of the subject in scientific, political and legal/ethical committees
• Support in the implementation of new concepts for further training regulations for specialists in human genetics in cooperation with the Professional Association of German Human Genetics (BVDH).
• Ensuring qualified training for scientific colleagues in the field of human genetics through the specially created job description "Specialist Human Geneticist (GfH)"
• Participation in the reform of curricula
• Nationwide offers for quality assurance in the field of cyto- and molecular genetics in close cooperation with the BVDH
• Close cooperation with European and international specialist societies for human genetics
• Promotion of patient concerns and close cooperation with self-help groups for genetic diseases
• Cooperation in setting up Internet databases on rare diseases and quality assurance measures in human genetics
• The GfH is the publisher of the journal Ärzte Genetik , a specialist communication forum for human geneticists in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
