Health promotion and prevention through exercise and sport: these are the main themes of the German Society for Sports Medicine and Prevention (DGSP) eV, founded in 1912. With around 8,000 medical members, it is one of the largest scientific and medical specialist societies in Germany and the largest in Europe and the oldest sports medicine association in the world . You can read the exact mission statement of the DGSP here .
Sports medicine bundles the sports medicine knowledge of numerous medical specialties and disciplines in the sense of an interdisciplinary subject, taking into account preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects. Athletes of all performance classes, from recreational athletes to high-performance athletes, are traditionally the focus of sports medicine, but in Their society, which is characterized by a lack of exercise, the health-relevant "recovery dose of exercise" is becoming increasingly important from a preventive and therapeutic point of view.
The main goals of the German Society for Sports Medicine and Prevention eV are:
• Implementation of measures to increase health literacy in the population,
• Range of services for sports and preventive medicine opinion leaders,
• Promotion of sports and preventive medicine research, teaching and further education,
• Building networks with companies, associations and other organizations.
Mission:
Health in sport - health through sport and exercise
The DGSP is the medical society for health in and through physical activity, movement and sport.
It represents goals in practice, teaching, research and health and association policy.
