German society for Proteome Research e.V. / Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Proteomforschung e.V. (DGPF)

Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

The DGPF was founded on November 22, 2001 in Martinsried at the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry. Its approximately 300 members come from the academic sector and from 3 business groups in the life sciences sector: small and medium-sized biotech start-up companies, established providers of biochemical analysis technologies and large companies in the pharmaceutical industry.

The DGPF sees itself as a platform to bring together the proteomics activities that have been started in Germany at various locations and within the framework of different programs under one roof and, in addition, to advance proteome research through nationally and internationally coordinated initiatives. Overarching coordination is intended to bring about the bundling and optimal use of national research capacities in order to be able to maintain a leading position in global competition.

The collaboration between science and business within the DGPF is ideally suited to promoting technology transfer and will thereby directly strengthen Germany as a business location and its competitiveness in an international comparison.
