DGHM has been founded in 1906 and has currently around 1,900 members. It brings together medical scientists, microbiologists, hygienists and clinicians interested in basic and clinical research on infectious diseases. DGHM is a member of the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS), International Union of Microbiological Societies (IUMS) and cooperates with the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).

Aims:
Promotion of scientific exchange in the various fields of microbiology, infection immunology as well as hygiene and health care.

The German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology (DGHM) is a scientific specialist society. It strives to bring together all scientists working in microbiology and hygiene in Germany and has the task of research and teaching in the various sub-areas of microbiology and infection immunology as well as hygiene and health through the exchange of scientific and practical experience, the implementation of scientific events and joint scientific activities To promote projects.

The purpose of the association is - in accordance with its scientific objective - exclusively and directly non-profit within the meaning of §§ 51 ff of the tax code.

The company is selflessly active and does not primarily pursue its own economic purposes. Management Board members are not paid for their work. The members of the association do not receive a share of the profits and, in their capacity as members, no other benefits from the funds of the association. The association may not favor anyone through expenses that are alien to the purpose of the association or through disproportionately high remuneration.
