The German Academy for Developmental Promotion and Health of Children and Adolescents was founded in 1983 (until 2008 as the "German Academy for Developmental Rehabilitation"). It was established by the Foundation for Disabled Children in Prevention and Early Detection in Frankfurt and the Sunshine Campaign - Help for Multiply Disabled Children in Munich for the training and continuing education of doctors, psychologists, therapists, educators, nursery school teachers, early intervention specialists, and other professional groups who work with sick, disabled, impaired, or disadvantaged children in any way.
The Academy is an association and pursues exclusively and directly non-profit purposes. The association's funds may only be used for the purposes stated in its statutes. No individual may be favored through disproportionately high remuneration. The German Academy for the Promotion of Development and Health of Children and Adolescents (German Academy for the Promotion of Development and Health of Children and Adolescents) in Munich maintains a building with classrooms and a lecture hall for its seminars; the construction was gratefully supported by the Federal Ministry and the Bavarian State Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and the Bavarian State Foundation.
The maintenance of the building and its facilities, staff costs, and all seminars and conferences are borne by the association itself, without public funding or sponsorship. The academy places great importance on independently deciding on its continuing education content and offering high-quality, relevant continuing education through qualified speakers.
The continuing education program is interdisciplinary, with topics tailored to the needs of affected children, adolescents, and their families, whose needs can rarely be met by a single discipline. Collaboration between different professional groups often forms the basis for successful treatment and care. The knowledge and skills of one professional are only valuable when combined with the other.
