The Société Française de Microscopie Electronique (SFME), created in 1959, the Société Française des Microscopies (Sfµ) was renamed to reflect the Company's openness to new microscopies.

Scientists from various disciplines, physics, biology, medicine, chemistry, metallurgy, mineralogy ... founded the SFME on the basis of the use of a common device. The Sfµ aims to be an original scientific forum bringing together very diverse skills in different areas of imaging (electron microscopy, photonics, X-rays, proximity probes, etc.), a source of fruitful discussions during meetings.

Goals & Statutes:
The Sfμ is an association law 1901 which has set the goals :
• Improving knowledge and the development of microscopy techniques
• Practical training and theoretical instruction
• Dissemination of knowledge
• Ensure consultation with commercial companies in the industry.
• During the Annual General Meeting 1996, it revised its statutes to affirm its openness and interdisciplinary will.
• It works with a Bureau of 8 members and a Council of 13 members.
