French Society of Dermatology / Societe Francaise de Dermatologie (SFD)

Paris, Ile-de-France, France

Like all European or American National Dermatology Societies, the French Society of Dermatology was born at the end of the 19th century, more exactly in 1889. Nevertheless, there was already a French journal of dermatology, the Annales de Dermatologie et de Syphiligraphie, of which the first issue was published in 1868.

It is generally remembered as the date of foundation on June 22, 1889, when the most famous dermatologists of the time came together and decided on the composition of the first office. The first scientific meeting took place a little later, on April 10, 1890. For nearly a century, the monthly meeting of the members of the Society was held in the conference room of the St. Louis Hospital Museum. These meetings followed the less formal ones that existed on Thursday morning, already at the Saint-Louis Hospital; there were patients from one or other of the dermatology departments.
