ESA is a national non-profit organisation of medical specialists, researchers, and trainees, who work towards the prevention of, and optimal treatment for, endocrine and related medical conditions.

ESA is a specialist society of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP).

The society was founded in 1958. It currently has over 1000 members, including recognised national and international experts who have made significant scientific and clinical discoveries. Members belong to medical and academic organisations across Australia, and are leaders within the RACP, hospital clinics, universities, faculties of medicine, medical institutes and Fellows of the Australian Academy of Science. Their member's expert opinion is sought by Government to inform national health policy.

Mission:
The mission of ESA is to shape research and health policies and practice based on scientific advances in endocrine science, to improve health care and outcomes.
ESA does this by:
• Providing collegiate support and education to its members who conduct clinical practice and research in endocrinology
• Providing research grants and other awards to support research into new and existing treatments for endocrine and related medical conditions
• Nurturing and developing future generations of specialist endocrinologists, endocrine researchers and scientists, and other health professionals
• Developing policies and position statements to guide clinical practice in endocrinology
• Providing an authoritative voice and expert opinions in endocrinology to government and non-governmental bodies, professional organisations, and media
• Disseminating contemporary and new knowledge in endocrinology to its members and the community
• Working with other professional societies in the region and worldwide who share their purpose
