In 2012, Fellows of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) identified the need for a trauma course that better reflected the modern, Australasian Emergency Medicine approach to trauma care.
A Trauma Education Needs Analysis survey was conducted, with the results directly informing the design of the Emergency Trauma Management (ETM) Course. The goal: to deliver a course specifically tailored to the practical needs of emergency medicine practitioners.
Since its launch in 2013 with just two courses, ETM has grown significantly, delivering 26 courses across Australia and New Zealand in 2025 alone. To date, over 3,800 participants have completed the course, with overwhelmingly positive feedback and strong agreement that all stated learning objectives were met.
ETM has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of clinicians, offering a modern, dynamic curriculum that supports both current and future generations of emergency medicine professionals.
In 2024, the course offering expanded to include a two-day Advanced Trauma Course and a three-day Paediatric Trauma Course, further broadening the scope of training available. The launch of ETM Online has also enabled clinicians to access CPD-accredited, high-quality trauma education in a flexible, self-paced format—designed to fit around busy clinical schedules.
ETM remains committed to providing practical, up-to-date, and relevant trauma education for emergency practitioners.
