Established in 1995 and incorporated in 1997 in Cairns, The Doctor Edward Koch Foundation is a non-profit organisation focusing on and supporting public health activities in North Queensland. The Foundation works to improve the lives of all those living in North Queensland, but currently its main focus is on those at risk of or affected by suicide, through its Life Program.

The Foundation also has a strong focus on education ensuring experienced and highly qualified field workers spend time teaching suicide prevention skills in communities across regional North Queensland including rural and remote locations. These community-based initiatives ensure communities are better equipped to deal with serious issues such as suicide prevention and mental health issues. The Foundation also champions better eating and healthier lifestyles in all communities of North Queensland.
