Center of Excellence for Minimal Access Surgery Training, Mumbai, is an academic initiative run by surgeons for surgeons, with the purpose to ensure advancement and progress of MAS in a structured manner, in every surgical discipline. It is the only center of its kind in India that offers hands-on training on close to life models, using in-vivo and ex-vivo tissue, which perfectly mimic a live patient, in a re-created OT setting with top of the line equipment. The hand-picked faculty at CEMAST enjoys national and international recognition in their respective surgical disciplines, and are bound by their passion for teaching. The center offers a plethora of surgical education courses, spanning 17 surgical super-specialties, with hands-on practise, live transmissions, didactic lectures, and operative videos constituting basic as well as advanced levels of training. An ISO 9001:2015 Certified organisation, CEMAST is an autonomous body receiving an educational grant from Karl Storz, Tuttlingen, that functions purely for the academic initiative, not for commerce, not for profit.
The mission of CEMAST is to train surgeons, gynecologists, urologists, pediatric and ENT surgeons in minimal access surgical techniques. A special emphasis is given on the training of surgeons from rural areas to cover their diverse training needs, which often encompass urology, flexible endoscopy as well as laparoscopic surgery. Also, medical students and surgical residents are trained in fundamentals of surgical skills.
