The Canadian Association of Neuroscience Nurses (CANN) sets standards of practice and promotes continuing professional education and research. Members collaborate with individuals, families, interdisciplinary teams and communities to prevent illness and to improve health outcomes for people with, or at risk for, neurological disorders. CANN achieves its mission statement through the direct and indirect education of nurses working with patients with neurological illness in a variety of settings.
CANN is an active member association of the Canadian Network of Nursing Specialties within the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), the World Federation of Neuroscience Nurses (WFNN), and is recognized as a specialty practice group with provincial regulatory colleges.
CANN offers a range of clinical resources, online education opportunities, awards and bursaries for neuroscience nursing. CANN members can also apply for neuroscience nursing certification credential, an important indicator to patients, employers, the public, and professional licensing bodies that the certified nurse is qualified, competent and current in neuroscience nursing and has met rigorous requirements to achieve this expert credential.
